Powerhand VRS – efficient and profitable vehicle recycling

Vehicle recycling with the Powerhand VRS

Maximising the recovery of recyclable materials from end-of-life vehicles

In modern vehicle recycling, one thing matters above all else: recovering as many valuable materials as possible from end-of-life vehicles before the bodywork goes into the shredder. With the Powerhand VRS (Vehicle Recycling System), you have access to a highly specialised excavator attachment that allows you to extract the maximum residual value from end-of-life vehicles (ELVs).

ECHLE is the exclusive distributor for the Powerhand VRS and offers you a high-performance solution for professional car recycling and vehicle dismantling.

Precise vehicle dismantling – like a bird of prey

Just as a bird of prey holds its prey, the VRS secures the vehicle with its powerful clamping arms. This keeps the vehicle firmly in place whilst the gripper removes individual components with precision.

The VRS enables high-value materials to be systematically separated from the less valuable vehicle bodywork, including:

  • Engine and transmission units
  • Axle and chassis components
  • Copper wiring harnesses
  • Starters, alternators and electrical components
  • Aluminium and steel components

This precise dismantling significantly increases the yield of recoverable materials, which sustainably improves the profitability of your recycling plant.

Slim pliers design for maximum visibility and precision

The Powerhand VRS gripper features a slim, pliers-like design that gives the operator a clear view of the vehicle.

This offers significant advantages in day-to-day work:

  • precise working even in confined spaces
  • safe removal of cable harnesses and components
  • targeted separation of high-quality materials
  • significantly reduced manual dismantling

Even hard-to-reach components such as copper cable harnesses in the engine compartment or passenger compartment can be removed quickly and efficiently.

Maximum performance for demanding recycling processes

The Powerhand VRS combines high gripping force with exceptional manoeuvrability. Powerful hydraulic cylinders and a high-torque rotation unit enable powerful and precise vehicle dismantling.

Key features:

  • powerful hydraulic cylinders
  • high-torque rotation unit
  • high gripping force for heavy components
  • Precise ‘pick-and-select’ dismantling
  • Robust construction for continuous operation

The VRS is designed for tough, continuous use in recycling operations and is manufactured entirely from high-strength Swedish alloy steels to ensure maximum load-bearing capacity and service life.

Suitable for excavators weighing between 14 and 30 tonnes

The system is designed for mounting on standard excavators and material handlers weighing between 14 and 30 tonnes and can be seamlessly integrated into existing recycling processes.

Various VRS models are available depending on requirements:

  • VRS140 – for machines weighing approx. 14–18 tonnes
  • VRS180 – for machines weighing approx. 16–20 tonnes
  • VRS200 – for machines weighing approx. 20 tonnes and above

This allows the Powerhand VRS to be flexibly adapted to different plant and machine configurations.

VRS Drive In

The VRS Drive-In combines the proven performance of the Powerhand VRS system with an innovative mounting system that can be fitted to almost any excavator or material-handling machine in just a few minutes without any welding: simply drive it in, connect the hydraulics and start work straight away.

Combined with the Powerhand VRS grapple, it creates a powerful, complete solution for precise and efficient vehicle dismantling. The system combines the power of a stationary unit with the flexibility of mobile applications.

Manufactured from high-strength materials, the VRS Drive-In is designed for demanding continuous use and ensures maximum uptime and cost-effectiveness in the recycling process.

  • Powerhand Engine Crusher

ERS Engine Crusher

The ERS grapple has been specially developed for the efficient shredding of vehicle engines. Designed for mounting on excavators weighing 18 tonnes or more, it features a powerful rotator and a robust hydraulic system for maximum operational flexibility.

Thanks to interchangeable, hard-coated crushing jaws, the ERS reliably breaks engines down into compact individual parts. In the process, heavy steel components such as crankshafts or valve stems are exposed before the subsequent shredding process and can be removed selectively. This reduces the load on downstream shredding plants and increases efficiency throughout the entire recycling process.

The ERS can be optionally fitted with an electromagnet to separate steel components quickly and easily.
